The challenge

The challenge in this project was to redesign
an infrared thermometer for a brand of choice.
I chose Volvo as a target brand.

APPERARANCE

– modern
– precise
– „techy“
– geometric
– „constructed“ look

CHARACTERISTICS

– vaulted, quick turning, fading lines
– unexpected moves and turns
– sharp creases interacting cleverly with part lines
– part lines break up geometry
– „thor‘s hammer“ light signature

CMF

– natural, desaturated colours on consumer cars
– swedish national colours on race cars
– playing with contrast colours or tone-on-tone
– soft touch vs. gloss

Design Process

 

The design process involved the tear down of an existing product in order to salvage the internals for a working prototype of my own design.
